This is Josiah with his friend Joshua at their preschool field trip to the Chilliwack fire hall at the end of May. It was fun times- tour of the hall, sitting in the truck, taking home new fire chief hats. The tour mostly went right over the heads of all the 3 year olds as the chief seemed to be aiming his comments at the parents, but they had fun walking around anyway.

This is the kids yelling, "FIRE" for their group shot. Also a highlight of their day. =)

Would someone please convince Josiah that it's okay to wear sandals? He INSISTS on wearing socks and shoes, regardless of his outfit or the high temperatures. There are pluses and minuses to a child's independence. The plus: he dresses himself from head to toe every day. Very grown up. The minus: 50% of the time he doesn't exactly match, and I have to resist the urge to make him change because, of course, I assume everyone will think I chose his clothes. But, I've decided to swallow my pride and let people think what they will. Rather than belittling Josiah, I just tell him in my most upbeat voice, "Okay Josiah, that doesn't really match, but if you like it, you can wear it." He seems quite satisfied with his choices every time...

I seem to remember in Selkirk he didn't like getting the leaves or whatever in his shoes. I don't understand shoes/socks in hot weather and it would probably drive me crazy to see my kids wearing them and make me feel hot too. Sonya likes to wear long sleeve shirts in hot weather because "I don't want to feel the hot sun on my body". Haven't figured out how to explain that less clothing is less hot than more clothing in a way for her to understand. I used to see kids wearing odd outfits (rain boots in mid-July with no rain for weeks) and wonder what's up with the parents. Now that I am a parent I fully understand . . .
jen hansen, julie edgeley here.
i take care of a 4, 3 and 18 mo old.
and the four year old is doing the exact same thing!
will only wear sandles if i make him, and if there is a logical reason-ie beach.
and gets himself dressed, which he's proud of, but is obsessed with hockey jerseys. i didn't notice until we got to the park the other day, and he had on four.
also if he hears that someone is coming over, he runs upstairs to put on a 'party' shirt, which is anything button up.
its a general grooming obsession in general, inlcuding gel, cologne, teeth brushing, curious george shaving..
cute, mildly maddening.
