familiar scent

We've been eating mandarin oranges around our house for a few weeks now, but this morning as I peeled an extra yummy smelling one, I had a great sense of anticipation for the Christmas season! Mandarins always remind me of December, and December is our Christmas month. We decorate on the 1st and try to "undecorate" before the 31st. I limit Christmas music to December alone. (save the unsolicited songs played in public places that I can't help but hear...) I save things like Toffifee chocolates and eggnog for December too. We stuff one mandarin orange in the toe of each of our stockings on Christmas morning and I eat mine as soon as I get to it. Today I'm thankful for sweet memories that good smells evoke.
