Trick or treat

Thought I'd quickly post a few pictures of our little munchkins going out for halloween last night. Josiah has gone through a big "Incredibles" stage the last couple of months, even though he gets a little scared at the movie... So we don't watch it much- he just LOVES to pretend that Dwayne is Mr. Incredible, the dad, I'm Elastigirl, the mom, he's Dash, the super-fast son, and Abby is Jack Jack...the little boy with no apparent super powers until the end of the movie. He doesn't like to pretend that she's the sister, Violet who can disappear. I guess because Violet is older, and he'd rather bend on her being a boy than being the older sibling. =) Aaanyway, we found him a cheap costume on e-bay and was a huge hit. He loved it.Abby is sporting the turtle costume that a neighbor from Selkirk gave us when we moved in which Josiah also wore when he was 1.
Our plan had been for Dwayne to go out with Josiah while Abby and I stayed home to give out candy. But, I wanted to walk around with Josiah for a few houses too, just to watch him in action. So, we walked around a bit as a family and Abby was having such a good time. She ran after Josiah, climbing up the stairs after him. They were both a hit at every door.
We had our own little halloween drama here in Eden park just before the trick or treating began. The kids and I went to pick up Dwayne from work and we were coming back for a quick supper and costume change when we saw a few serious folks around the complex. There were several police officers posted, out of uniform, but some had black shirts with "POLICE" on them, which kind of gave them away... Two of the officers were parked outside our place and watched us rather closely as we went into our house. Human nature, being what it is, I decided to go out the front door a few minutes later to check out what was going on and one of the officers came turned around and held out his hand at me and said, "It's okay. You're okay," rather loudly. "If I'm okay, then why was that necessary?" I thought... I hesitated and thought I'd best just turn around and go in the house when he adds, "You're safer now that you've ever been," in a totally flat, serious voice. "Uh huh," I thought. "Why do I not feel so safe?" I thought... Okay, back in the house. Again, human nature being what it is and all, we couldn't help but all peer out the front window off and on while we were getting supper ready. Then, we see all of the cops starting to move in on one of the units in front of our place- about 3 or 4 away from us. Then, we see one of the cops draws his gun...! Okay, I think we'll move Abby away from the window now. Isn't that crazy? I mean, there's kids riding their bikes about 20 feet away. He draws his gun? Wouldn't you think they'd sort of keep the public away from that sort of scene? Wow. He wasn't pointing it or anything, just holding it, half ready to draw it up... Anyway, they obviously arrested some guy inside, and it turns out (our neighbors actually watch the news and had figured some things out) that he had been the driver in a hit-and-run a day or two before, leaving a 14 year old boy with very serious injuries. Police were looking for a black mustang, and he had one...with a broken headlight. Crazy. I'm thinkin' you're gonna get caught, guy... Anyway, that was our drama.

Wow crazy police story! What is the world coming to. We had a crazy event of our own back in September on the 1st day of school. It was 10 am and guys in masks with guns walked by my block, went half a block up Pacific Ave. and shot up someone's car. Then they took off and no one ever caught them as far as I know. Schools were locked down and there was a lot of hubbaloo about it. Doesn't make you feel very safe does it?
