Last year when we moved to BC, we had a conversation with Dwayne's parents and Cheryl & Zach about getting together regularly. You know how it goes with family sometimes? You live relatively close together, but your lives are so busy that you don't actually see each other that often. Dwayne's parents live in Coquitlam which is about an hour drive from our house. Cheryl and Zach live in Langley- about 45 minutes from here. So, we don't really just "drop by." We have to plan for these things. So, our plan since last August has been to meet at least monthly and to alternate between our 3 households. So far, out of 16 months or so, we've only missed a couple, so I think we're doing pretty well. It has been soooo nice.
Today was one of our family days. We met in Langley late this morning, had lunch, hung out all afternoon, had supper, and we came home in time to put the kids to bed. (Dwayne and I also managed to squeeze in an hour of child-less Christmas shopping...glorious...see earlier post...) I love surrounding myself and my kids with extended family. Growing up, my own extended family was such a blessing to me. Grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, cousins. I loved spending time with them. I still do. And it brings joy to my heart seeing my kids playing with their grandparents, aunts, and uncles...and cousins to come one day, we hope! =) Today I'm thankful for our wonderful family members nearby and our wonderful family members far away who always make their way out to see us.
