More fun than a barrel of monkeys

So, I was thinking to myself this morning, "What on earth are we going to do today?" I was feeling pretty tired, we didn't have a car or anywhere to go, and Dwayne had a volleyball tournament, so he wouldn't be home until later. By 9:15am it was feeling like 5:30pm would never come... I love being home with my kids, but some days it feels like we might go crazy stuck in the house together. So, I thought it looked cool outside, but it wasn't raining- I decided we had to get out. Of course, try to tell Josiah that it's November! Getting a jacket on him was a big enough battle, I didn't bother trying to get him in pants. At least the very fashionable socks could keep his legs warm...Thankfully, our house is right next to this park, and while the kids were playing on the slide I spotted all the leaves and thought that a bit of raking might make for a few minutes of entertainment.

Oh man, what a good time! We raked, we tossed, we jumped, we buried, we raked some more. More than an hour passed easily and we were all laughing. No refereeing. No pulling away from forbidden places or objects. No calling for quieter voices. Just good fun.

Turns out, this was one of those days where I was so thankful to be home with my kids.

Which leads me to my fun November goal. I'm going to try and post every day until the end of the month. Things to be thankful for. I ripped this off from Karen's blog, but I'm pretty sure she ripped it off too. =) I'm already a few days behind, but whatever. It will be good for my perspective. And, I hope it will get me back in the blogging habit. And maybe it will get my readers back in the checking in habit. I find that with long distance friendships and family relationships, it's hard to keep up on the day-to-day details that help us feel close. When we get a chance to talk, we're mostly catching up on the big events, but we miss out on the little things that make our relationship richer. Knowing that there were dentist appointments and difficult shopping trips and playing in the leaves. So, that's my ultimate goal with this month of posts. That those of you farther away will feel a little more connected with what's happening here- or at least what's happening in my head. =)

Today, we found a wonderful park full of leaves. I'm thankful for parenting inspiration. =)

Hey - I didn't know you could comment on these things! Being new to the blogging world and all... But I wanted to say what a great story Jen and I wish we could join you and team Hansen for a romp through the leaves... Andrejs finds them very tasty!
Take care...

Delightful! Looking forward to each day :)
Growing up we had a huge tree in our yard and my Mom (Grandma) and I have often talked about the great memory of my Dad (Grandpa):) raking up leaves for me to jump in each Fall. I've often thought..."what a Dad all that hard work just for me."
